Generalist (cross-disciplinary) modules are drawn from the training portfolio of the CED at Normandie Université (shared and professional training courses), or any other organisation.

In the latter case, interested doctoral students may apply for financial assistance from the ED MIIS by submitting a funding request that specifies and justifies the desired objective and the choice of training organisation.

Hours are also allocated for collective responsibilities and elected positions (central councils, organisation of doctoral student days, doctoral student associations, etc.).

Skills developed during thesis work that enhance the value of the PhD in the private sector may be taken into account, such as involvement in the life of the ED, an elected position in an institution, or the organisation of events within the institution.

All doctoral students must sign, together with their thesis supervisor, the training agreement established by ComUE Normandie Université upon enrolment.

Doctoral students enrolled in their first year in 2022-2023 and before must complete 60 hours of training, while those enrolled in their first year in 2023-2024 must complete 80 hours of training over the three years of their thesis, with the requirement to choose at least one generalist module, one disciplinary module and one compulsory module.

All training courses taken must issue a certificate of attendance, which must be returned to the local administrator of the Doctoral School.

In order to help doctoral students plan their training programme and assess the amount of training they still need to complete, they are given an annual summary of the training courses they have completed and validated. At the end of their thesis, and in order to be authorised to defend it, doctoral students must present a summary of the training courses they have completed.

The management of shared training courses offered by the College of Doctoral Schools is handled by the dedicated departments of each institution and by site.

For specific and shared training courses, registration is usually done directly on SYGAL, using your student digital account. You will receive confirmation of your registration 10 days before the training date. Given the limited number of places, it is essential to notify SYGAL if you are unable to attend so that the course can be offered to a doctoral student on the waiting list. No doctoral student who has not registered in advance will be allowed to attend a course.
