CSI: operation

The CSI monitors the progress of doctoral student on an annual basis, or more frequently if the doctoral student or thesis supervisor so wishes. Each annual interview is scheduled and organised by the doctoral student, using videoconferencing where necessary. The interview is based on a progress report submitted by the doctoral student about ten days before the interview. Any publications, submissions in progress, etc. may be included.

The interview covers the following topics in particular:

• material conditions (professional and personal);
• integration into the doctoral student’s host team and the doctoral school;
• appropriation of the thesis topic;
• progress of the thesis work (results obtained and promotion);
• training courses taken and planned (general and specific, validation, evaluation);
• mobility, participation in conferences, etc.;
• acquisition of professional skills (practical and intellectual), doctoral student portfolio, and preparation for the next stage of their career;
• compliance with the training agreement (content and progress).

The interview is organised in three distinct phases:

• Phase 1: Presentation by the doctoral student of the progress of their work and discussion with the committee.
• Phase 2: Private interview with the doctoral student without the thesis supervisor.
• Phase 3: Private interview with the thesis supervisor without the doctoral student.

The committee makes recommendations and sends a report of the interview to the doctoral school management, the thesis supervisor and the doctoral student, who submits it to SyGAL.

In the event of difficulties, the doctoral student’s individual monitoring committee alerts the doctoral school, which takes all necessary measures relating to the doctoral student’s situation and the progress of their doctoral studies.
